Townsville forced to import sperm from US

Townsville Bulletin reported that Queensland, the city of Townsville has turned to US for sperm donation as an alternative as Australia faces shortage of sperm donation. Queensland Fertility Group used to rely on university students who are in need of cash to donate sperm. However, since the recent law implementation which sperm donors have to be contactable once the child they helped to conceive turns 18,all the donors stopped donating as they wouldn’t want to get involved with the child that they helped to conceive in 18 years time. Due to the critical shortage, IVF clinics are forced to be creative about attracting potential donors. IVF Australia launched an online advertising campaign with the tagline, “You’ve millions to spare, we only need one.”
